REPORT BACK ON MEETING HELD SATURDAY 6 MARCH
Cape Town had its first 2010 meeting on Saturday, 6 March, kindly organized by Annamarie Oosthuisen. Gill Smit, a radiographer who works in the UCT Cathlab, gave an interesting introduction on what happens in the Cathlab.
This lead to numerous discussions, including the lack of knowledge the general public have on what a device is or how to deal with a person who has one . Of great concern was also how bystanders react when a person collapses in public. It is important that the public know how to identify a condition on a collapsed person and react appropriately.
This stressed the need for greater continued awareness and education drives. So all Voices for PACE will be appreciated!
We are also very excited that Gill is starting a counseling programme for arrhythmia patients. We look forward to her programme and hope to establish it elsewhere in the country.
The next meeting is scheduled for 31 July, when we plan to have a speaker on CPR/AED application, which is vital in saving lives. Please join us! You can phone Annamarie at 072 472 2809 or Gill at 083 677 1284 for more information.
