Paul completes Cape Epic!
The final day of the taxing 2010 Absa Cape Epic presented by Adidas saw riders cover 65km and 1 640m of climbing, cycling from Oak Valley to their final destination at the Lourensford Wine Estate. As is tradition, the last stage was the shortest, but not easy. As riders approached vineyards, they knew it was all about short, sharp climbs before some longer and even steeper ones through Nuweberg, up to the superb vistas of Elgin/Grabouw. In 2010 the Absa Cape Epic took a new route into the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, on Buysepad, skirting Gantouw Pass.
Paul Brink achieved the following results:
Stage Time : 5:29.44,5
Stage Position : 282. in Men category and 422. in general classification
Overall Time : 58:14.37,7
Overall Position : 274. in Men category and in 413. general classification

REPORT BACK ON MEETING HELD 18 MARCH
The Tygerberg Group kicked off the 2010 meetings  with the beautiful, “practice what you preach” dietician, Evette Venter.

She gave us very useful information ranging from cholesterol, the difference between fats, fibre, what best oils to use, value of Omega 3 and Phytonutrients like berries. Flaxseed seems to be very popular these days!
She also stressed the fact that people with arrhythmias should avoid stimulants such as coffee, coke and chocolate.

After healthy snacks and more questions, we all went home, motivated to put the Christmas dinner behind us and start exercising and step up on the fibre, fruit and vegetables.

She is willing to share the informative talk with anybody interested.

Our next meeting is on the 22nd July when Prof Paul Brink will be our guest speaker and talking about “Exercise and the Heart”.
